OSCON 2018

July 18 @ 8:00 am - July 19 @ 5:00 pm PDT

OSCON is where all of the pieces come together: developers, innovators, businesspeople, and investors. In the early days, this trailblazing O’Reilly event was focused on changing mainstream business thinking and practices; today OSCON is about real-world practices and how to successfully implement open source in your workflow or projects. While the open source community has always been viewed as building the future—that future is here, and it’s everywhere you look. Since 1999, OSCON has been the best place on the planet to experience the open source ecosystem. At OSCON, you’ll find everything open source: languages, communities, best practices, products and services. Rather than focus on a single language or aspect, such as cloud computing, OSCON allows you to learn about and practice the entire range of open source technologies.

Check out the following Hyperledger sessions at OSCON!

Title: What’s new with Hyperledger Sawtooth 1.0?
Speaker: Kelly Olson, Director, Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) Group, Intel (Hyperledger member)
Date/Time: Wednesday, July 18 at 1:45–2:25pm
Location: Portland 256

Hyperledger Sawtooth is an open source modular platform hosted by Hyperledger for building, deploying, and running distributed ledgers. Kelly Olson offers an overview of Hyperledger Sawtooth, shares current development efforts on the project, explains how to get started with the code, and details different ways your can contribute to Hyperledger Sawtooth 1.0.

Title: Getting Started with Hyperledger Indy
Speaker: Tracy Kuhrt, Community Architect, Hyperledger
Date/Time: Wednesday, July 18 at 11:50am-12:30pm
Location: Portland 256

Hyperledger Indy is a distributed ledger built for decentralized identity and is one of the open source frameworks hosted by Hyperledger. It provides tools, libraries, and reusable components for creating and using independent digital identities rooted on blockchains or other distributed ledgers.

Attendees of this session will get an introduction to Hyperledger Indy and decentralized identity. Tracy will walk through the process and speak to the essentials needed to develop an application using Hyperledger Indy. Along the way, attendees will explore the basics of distributed ledger technology, set up a development environment for Hyperledger Indy, and better understand how Indy can be used for storing verifiable claims.

Title: Enterprise Blockchain
Speaker: Nate DiNiro and Cian Montgomery
Date/Time: Wednesday, July 18 at 6:00-8:00pm
Location: Oregon Convention Center, Room/Hall to be determined

Hyperledger and the PDX Hyperledger meetup will be hosting this event. This EBM will be in the context of one of the most venerable open source software conferences around, that draws ~5000 from around the globe. The program for the evening is being firmed up, but expect it to be a light touch as “Bird of a Feather” (BoF) sessions tend to be organic and often simply a big circle of discussion.

Title: What’s New with Hyperledger
Speaker: Tracy Kuhrt, Community Architect, Hyperledger
Date/Time: Thursday, July 19 at 11:00-11:40am
Location: E141

Hyperledger is an open source collaborative effort created to advance cross-industry blockchain technologies. Hear from Hyperledger Community Architect, Tracy Kuhrt on what is new including projects that have reached 1.0 production level and what that means. She’ll also touch on new integrations among different Hyperledger technologies including Hyperledger Sawtooth and Hyperledger Burrow. She’ll give a quick intro to four new projects that were accepted into incubation in 2017 including Hyperledger Burrow, Hyperledger Indy, Hyperledger Composer and Hyperledger Quilt. Tracy will also shine a light on development efforts and how developers can get involved, speak to aspirations for the projects and talk specifically about what we can expect in subsequent releases.
